Help us help Tamahere School … more than just fundraising. With your support we can share the load and have fun doing it!
‘Tamahere Model Country School gratefully acknowledges the significant and on-going contribution of our parents and wider community in supporting our school. These contributions greatly benefit our school and what we are able to provide for our students.’ Waveney Parker – Principal

How do we help?
The underlying role of the PTA is to support both the School Administration and the Board of Trustees in fulfilling their responsibilities. We do this by: • Providing the links between the Board of Trustees, the parents and the wider community • Helping to provide an environment which supports children’s learning • Assisting with school activities, fundraising and minor maintenance of facilities. More information on this key part of the PTA contribution is outlined below.
Class representatives (2 for each class) support the PTA in reaching out to the wider school community, and welcoming new parents.
Money raised through our fundraising efforts is used to provide resources (including some basics) that are not funded by the Government as a result of its Decile 10 funding level. Additional commitment from its parents is relied on in order to support the School’s extensive learning programme, enjoy reduced class sizes and teacher aide support, and to maintain and develop our much valued School facilities.

How can you help?
We ask parents and caregivers if they would be able to help with some of the above activities by getting involved and having fun! Helping out at some of these events is also a great way to get to meet other members of the school community. Sponsorship of events is also valued.
If you think you may be able to assist in helping or being on a committee to organise any of the above, please respond to specific event requests, contact the office, email pta@tamahereschool.ac.nz or ask your class representative who to talk to!
You can find out more at our PTA meetings. Parents with new ideas and enthusiasm, or simply those who are interested in their children’s education who would like to support us in some way (or join the PTA team), are welcomed!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the PTA Representatives
Fundraising and support …it’s about a lot of people doing a little. What will your contribution be this year?

PTA Representatives:

Fundraising Support:
The PTA oversees several major fundraisers (some held bi-annually). Many of these will help enrich your child’s time spent at Tamahere Model Country School:
Golf Day A new annual event and a chance for community members and business teams to enjoy a great day out at a local golf club. We are seeking sponsors for holes, golfers on the day, and many hours of fun working on the day providing food and refreshments, or helping with registrations.
Pumpkin Night A community get-together in Term 1. It revolves around the children growing pumpkins for this gala evening. Most families are involved either in set up, sponsorship, raffles, manning a stall or being part of the dedicated clean-up team!
Favours Auction An evening out for parents. The main focus is school parents and the community donating favours or items for auction – a great night out!
Garden Ramble Tour This is a well-known event throughout the Waikato. It showcases gardens and homes and provides delectable lunches!
Waikato World The PTA provides lunch to all the judges on show days. Your help is to provide lunch items, or help with preparing and serving the lunch
Community nights Men’s night or ladies’ night or both! Usually with dinner and/or a guest speaker. A great night out!
Children’s Disco (school fundraiser) Helping to set up the hall, and supervising our delightful children so they too can enjoy a social event.
School Lunches (school fundraiser) A Friday lunch treat! Parents collate orders and collect/prepare and serve
Items for Purchase (school fundraiser) From time to time we offer items such as family photo shoots, the Entertainment book, and of course our brand new Kids’ Art Space website.
Tamahere Ball (school fundraiser) This wonderful event, held for the first time in Spring 2007 in our new community hall, was a howling success! We hope to see it back again before too long!
The ball was also a great example of how a committed group of parents, not actively involved in the PTA, can bring an idea to fruition. Well done ball committee! Check out the Photos

Community/School Support:
While fundraising is a big part of what we do, it is not the only thing we focus on. We also run a number of community based activities – e.g. new parent coffee get-togethers. The PTA supports school community events such as:
Grandparents’ Day - Providing the refreshments for all those lively grandparents arriving to spend the morning with their grandchildren. Agriculture Day- The PTA needs to set up the grounds so the children can showcase their groomed calves, lambs and kids. Lunch Orders Seven Aside Tournament- For the Maungatautari syndicate (Year 5/6 children), a cluster of schools meet, and our parents provide lunch. Parent Teacher Interviews - The PTA co-ordinates the preparation a light meal for the teachers during the evening of interviews

Other Parent Duties:
There are also many other areas where parents contribute to the school outside the PTA umbrella. For example,
Lost property Newsletter compilation Reading room Scholastic Book Club Working bees Sports committees and coaching Uniform committee School camps/outings Sports day assistance School productions Professional/skilled or dogsbody support Board of Trustees …and more!
